We might be a little bit biassed, but we think Geelong is a pretty epic city. Especially when it comes to things to do for couples. 

Whether you’re looking for weekend getaway, date night or simply just something a little different to do with your loved one in Geelong, we feel pretty confident this list is going to help you out.

1. Wine tasting at a local vineyard

This list would not be complete without suggesting a wine tasting and lunch at a local vineyard – what is not to like about sharing a wine with your partner. 2. The Pivotonian Cinema

For the movie loving couples, there is no better way to spend a date in Geelong than at the Pivotonian. ‘Pivotonian’ is the old name for the people of Geelong – known in the Gold Rush era as Pivot City.

Through the Rent a Vine experience you’ll learn hands-on how to make wine; from picking and crushing, pruning and tending to blending and branding, and of course, drinking! Rollerway in Newtown is especially fantastic for those of us 80s babies. Throw on your neon and head to Rollerway on the first Saturday night of the month for Adults Only 18+ nights from 8:30-10:30pm.

If you’re looking for a unique cultural food experience in central Geelong, head to Sumi Geelong for a Japanese influenced bincho-tan BBQ.⁠ Start with a Sake and move on to an Austin’s Chardonnay to impress your other half.

9. Ghost tour at the Old Geelong Gaol

Definitely our pick for a date idea around Halloween in Geelong, however if you’re up for a spooky adventure with your lover then a Ghost Tour at the Old Geelong Gaol is a must. Maybe follow up the experience with a glass of local wine somewhere nice to lighten the mood 😉

13. Moorabool Valley Taste Trail

The Moorabool Valley is on Geelong’s doorstep and it is full of amazing local produce including a number of wineries, restaurants, farm gates, markets and provedores. Spend a day exploring the Moorabool Valley Taste Trail together. Bonus points for putting together a Spotify playlist of all her/his favourites.

14. The Q Train

The Q Train travels along the historic Bellarine Railway between Drysdale and Queenscliff. The degustation focuses on local produce and you can opt for a romantic private dining compartment for two.

If you’re a couple who loves to share a bottle of wine, then look no further than the Geelong Cellar Door. This intimate setting is the perfect spot in the Geelong CBD to indulge in a delicious glass of local vino.

16. Anakie Fairy Park

For the young at heart, Anakie Fairy Park is a must-do. Fairy Park is set in the beautiful open, rolling countryside of Anakie, just 35 minutes from Geelong. Discover fairies, elves, hippogriffs and dragons in this enchanting mediaeval wonderland! Get ready to be delighted, entertained and intrigued, no matter your age!

Take him/her along to a Brush & Bubbles event where you get arty while drinking bubbles! From painting to making candles, resin cheese boards,, floral arrangements and more – there’s plenty of new things the two of you can try and experience together.

18. Giant Sky Wheel

“You spin my head right round, right round” – jump on the Giant Sky Wheel this summer. Each year the southern hemisphere’s largest travelling ferris wheel makes the Geelong Waterfront its home and it is the perfect idea for a summer date – especially if you can time it right and jump on at sunset.

19. Barrabool Maze

For the little and big kids, the Barrabool Maze makes for a fantastic date idea. Once you have navigated your way through the hedge maze, enjoy a delicious bite to eat and bottle of prosecco at the onsite cafe.

20. Festival of Sails

Running since 1844, the Festival of Sails is Australia’s largest regatta and it’s a fantastic time to be out and about in Geelong. It takes place for 5 days over the Australia Day Weekend and alongside the sailing there’s plenty of live musi8c, fireworks and more.

21. A romantic stroll along Eastern Beach Reserve to see the Baywalk Bollards

Eastern Beach Reserve on the waterfront is the perfect place for a relaxing sunset stroll and to see the iconic Baywalk Bollards. Local artist Jan Mitchell created the bollards which are carved out of wood from the pylons of one of Geelong’s piers. Pack a picnic or grab an ice-cream and enjoy each others company as you stroll along the flat, smooth promenade which runs along the edge of Corio Bay.

22. Bike the Bellarine Rail Trail

If you and your love are fitness and/or biking buffs then the 35km Bellarine Rail Trail between South Geelong to Queenscliff Railway Station following the route of the former train line is a must. Pack a picnic or stop at one of the cafes along the way.

23. Beach day at Rippleside Geelong

Rippleside is one of the quieter beaches with lovely calm water, making it a great spot to take a date. If you can convince your date, heading there for a sunrise picnic breakfast is well worth the early start in summer.
