Burning of the Canes

Celebrate the “Burning of the Canes” at Austin’s Wines on Saturday, August 8th. This annual ritual marks the end of the grape harvest and the beginning of a new season. Join us for a spectacular bonfire on our 1,500-acre property, symbolizing rebirth and prosperity.
Enjoy live Music from ‘Friction’, mouth watering winter warming food from your favourite food trucks, and award-winning wines. With mulled wine and delicious food, this all-weather event promises an unforgettable night.

Tickets: $75 includes entry & entertainment
Bus Tickets: $40 per person
Age: 18+ only. (due to the open fire, this event is not appropriate for those under 18 years of age)
What to wear: We are launching our 2025 Austin’s Pinot, so let’s go anything ‘P’ for our theme!
Bus transfers from Geelong, Bannockburn, Torquay or Lara are available.
Bring a deck chair or picnic blanket and wear your winter gear.
Strictly NO BYO food or beverage.
What is Burning of the Canes?
With a history of being a European Pagan ceremonial ritual of burning the old vine canes that have recently been pruned. Burning of the Canes is a celebration of the rebirth of our vines as the buds start to come back to life. On August the 8th we will be celebrating a successful 2026 harvest whilst welcoming the new season of our 2027 vintage with the hopes that it will be another bountiful and top quality harvest.
What happens if it rains?
This is an all-weather event, so rug up, pop on your boots and be prepared if it rains.
Tickets are non-refundable.
Where are you located?
We are in Sutherlands Creek, 15 minutes from Geelong and less than an hour from Melbourne.
Can you get Ubers from your cellar door?
You can pre-book a taxi or alternatively book a seat on the bus. Ubers can be a challenge in our location.
