BAAH LAH at Austin’s

BAAH LAH is coming home to the Cellar Door. Head chef Brian Anderson brings the Singaporean flavours of his Pakington Street restaurant back out to the vineyard. His menu draws on Malay and Chinese cooking and uses plenty of local produce.

It’s a menu made for sharing. Start with freshly shucked oysters, or baked ones with chilli sambal. Then try the pork wontons with chilli and soy pearls, and crispy egg tofu with garlic sauce and fried shallots. For something bigger, there’s Malay style beef rendang, slow cooked chicken maryland in aromatic broth, or the curry duck burger, with handmade roti and imperial aromatic chicken rice on the side. Save a little room for mango pudding with Chinese doughnuts and condensed milk.

A glass of our Riesling goes beautifully with the chilli and spice, and the Pinot Noir was made for that duck. The menu has vegetarian and vegan dishes, plus a small kids’ menu.

Tables go quickly when Brian is in the kitchen, so book ahead, pull up a chair and take your time over the view.
