Australian Winemakers since 1982
Grown in the rich limestone soils and cool climes of the Moorabool Valley, we’ve created a wine for sharing life’s best moments, both big and small. Bring your family and friends, pull up a chair, raise a glass and let’s make memories. Welcome to the Austin’s family.
Austin’s grows and produces single vineyard, premium wines, and is owned and operated by second-generation family members, Scott and Belinda Austin. Harnessing 30 years of Austin’s winemaking history, they are driven to reshape the ‘typical’ Australian fine wine occasion into a vibrant, exploratory and welcoming experience.
In the last five years, the business has seen significant business growth, driven by 6Ft6 nationally, and a boutique on-premise focus for its core Austin’s brand.
Approaching wine with an innovative, contemporary and authentic attitude, the hope is for Austin’s to be wholeheartedly and memorably enjoyed with family and friends.
A FAMILY OF THE VINES
In 1982, Pamela and Richard Austin purchased a small five-acre block in Waurn Ponds, Victoria. Driven by a desire to grow grapes and make wine to be enjoyed with their friends around the dinner table, they developed a small vineyard of three acres.
This passion evolved over time and in 1990 they purchased acreage in the Moorabool Valley and set about planting a new vineyard. Over the course of five years they established 150 acres of vines and Austin’s Wines was born.
Winemaking was in the family bloodline. In 2008 their son Scott took ownership of the business and was later joined by his wife Belinda and their three children Spencer, Delilah and Huxley.
Austin’s grows and produces single vineyard, premium wines. Harnessing 30 years of Austin’s winemaking history, we are driven to reshape the ‘typical’ Australian fine wine occasion into a vibrant, exploratory and welcoming experience.
Our philosophy is, and always will be, to create quality wine to be enjoyed with family and friends in an authentic, welcoming and enriching experience, through both our special occasion wine brand, Austin’s or our mid-tier range, 6Ft6.
Why Moorabool Valley WINE?
The Moorabool Valley produces wines of great power and concentration, with precise varietal definition and deft balance.
Continental in nature, we’re close to the Southern Ocean and dry in summer. The cool climate gives our wines full ripeness and beautiful finesse.
Moorabool Valley has a rich history, with ancient volcanic soils containing a tough limestone and basalt base. This forms the sub-region’s unique terroir and provides the ideal free-draining soil for our grapevines.
AUSTIN’S VINEYARD
Austin’s has been located in the heart of the Moorabool Valley since 1990, a cool climate wine region steeped in rich history. Nestled between Geelong & Ballarat, the Moorabool Valley’s small, family run vineyards provide rich and intense low yield fruit, an ideal terroir for producing award-winning wines.
The Austin’s Estate is across 1,500 acres, with 150 under vine. The land boasts rich volcanic, limestone soils and a terrain that sits in a rain shadow.
Challenging weather conditions makes the Moorabool Valley one of the most complicated places to make wine, yet it produces some of the region’s best wines, notably, pinot noir.
Sitting on the ocean floor some 20,000 years ago, this land has been reclaimed by millennia of volcanic activity. Geelong’s Moorabool Valley sub-region has a tough limestone and basalt base. This gives the sub-region its unique terroir and provides the ideal free-draining soil for our grapevines.
Moorabool Valley’s cool climate is continental by nature but still moderated by its proximity to the ocean. This provides perfect conditions to grow world-class wines. All our vines are planted north–south and trained vertically. The canopies are managed to provide enough light and air into the fruit zone to maximise vine quality and health.
Careful irrigation during the growing season ensures healthy vine growth and even ripening which is the key to quality fruit.
