An effervescent, inspiring place
OSAKA 2009 - an effervescent, inspiring place
After a week powder skiing in Hakuba (near Tokyo) I flew to Osaka and participated in the Regional Tasting of Australian Wine.
Austins sixfootsix Pinot Noir
has been an outstanding performer in Japan for the last few years and
continues to increase its profile with some fantastic new listings. Our
product is imported and distributed by Vai and Co, an “Australian Only”
portfolio. The owner, Shunji Vai, told me that while Japan is
experiencing significant downturn in its large economy, product
propositions like sixfootsix with great value and quality offerings are
forging ahead and opening the Japanese market to the new world wines
(away from expensive French wine).
Shunji expects to double his sales of Austins and sixfootsix Pinot Noir
this year and expand his range to include Shiraz and Chardonnay.
While in Japan, I caught up with my host family from 19 years ago when
I lived in Kobe for one year - an experience I will never forget. It’s
always great to see them again.
I plan to return to Japan later in the year for more Karaoke and some time in the trade!
