'“sixfootsix Larriken2” was a very unfortunate late withdrawal from Skandia Geelong Week
2009 (Australia’s largest sailing event, which spans the Australia Day
long weekend) . The Hick 30 design sportsboat, owned by a couple of my
good friends Stefan Treurniet and Darren Pickering and crewed by some
larrikins including me, Scott which rope? Austin, was pulled out of the
race week for mast repairs.
Thanks to the generosity of a good mate of Darren’s, we were extended
the pleasure of “borrowing” a Farr 36 cruising yacht to make sure we
did not miss out on the experience altogether. The passage race from
Melbourne to Geelong is an annual pilgrimage not to be missed.
A brand new carbon mast has now been fitted and the boys are keen as
mustard to get her back in the water and resume racing. sixfootsix
Larriken 2, was de-masted in late November while leading the Division
One series at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club. Tumultuous, unpredictable
weather patterns have since played havoc with the racing fixture, with
four Saturday races called off. sixfootsix Larriken 2 remarkably still
finds herself a chance to get back into the series and compete for a
podium position. Stand-by for more from the Larriken proudly sponsored
by sixfootsix wines, Geelong.
Aside from the sailing, Austins Wines was also represented at a
shoreside marquee, with all our regular customers in attendance. This
annual event has become a great opportunity to to catch up with old
friends and show-off our new releases.
